Hailey’s Payday, Harvard Drama & Kids Who Invest – The Curve

Hailey’s Payday, Harvard Drama & Kids Who Invest

This week, Soph had two beers, which led to the girls unpacking the growing wellness wave. They question whether drinking is the new cigarettes and discuss what might take its place (spoiler: it’s not kombucha).

From there, they dive into Hailey Bieber’s headline-grabbing billion-dollar beauty deal. What did she actually make? And what does it tell us about the rise of celeb-founded brands, the power of equity, and just how much a loyal following can fast-track your business success?

Also on the agenda: a US proposal to give every baby $1,000 invested in the stock market. It’s sparking big questions about generational wealth, financial education from birth, and how we can better set up the next generation, without handing them another plastic toy.

Oh, and then there’s Trump’s war on Harvard, the OnlyFans sale rumour mill (Conor McGregor, really?), and the rise of the “stay-at-home son.” A term that’s both hilarious and a little concerning.

It’s a big one this week!

WTF Does That Mean? A Guide to All the Jargony Bits

Equity – Owning a slice of a company. Like having a piece of the pie (but make it business-flavoured).

Endowment Fund – A giant savings account for unis. They invest it and use the profits to pay for stuff like scholarships or research.

Creative Director – Fancy title for the person in charge of the brand’s look, feel and vibe. Big mood board energy.

Celebrity Endorsement – When a celeb gets paid to say they like a product. Not the same as actually owning the business.

Generational Wealth – Money passed down through families. Think trust funds and investment accounts, not hand-me-down hoodies.

S&P 500 – The 500 biggest US companies. Basically the stock market’s MVPs.

Investment Account – A place to stash your money so it can (hopefully) grow. Like a savings account, but smarter.

Private Company – A business that isn’t listed on the stock exchange. No buying shares on your phone here.

Public Listing / IPO – When a company goes public and starts selling shares on the stock market. Kind of like a launch party, but for finance.

PR (Public Relations) – How a brand manages its image. Think headlines, press releases, and making billion-dollar deals look really good.

Generative AI – Okay, not mentioned this week but just in case it pops up next time: It's tech that creates stuff like text, images, or videos. Yes, like me
